Swimming Lessons

Hugo had his first swimming lesson today.  He LOVED it!  Two high school age girls were the instructors and they were both very sweet and organized with the kids.  Hugo did pretty okay with listening.  He didn't always stay sitting on the edge of the pool, as all the children had been asked to do (and were doing) while waiting their turn.  I find it interesting how many kids do exactly what they've been asked, then there is my son.  Watching him push the limits in a setting outside our home, away from me, was entertaining.  I'm glad his non-listening behavior isn't something that manifests itself with me alone, but sad he isn't a better listener for myself and especially others.  Mrs. Newton, Hugo's preschool teacher, told me at the end of the year that "he could be a better listener".  Not more proficient with his ABC's or counting off his numbers or with using his safety scissors.  "He could be a better listener."  Amen to that, I replied to myself.  We need to work on being better listeners here at home, church and during swim lessons.  Any suggestions?
