A Sleepover II

Tonight was Thing 3's last night in New York state for a long, long time.  We were lucky enough to score one last sleepover.  Hugo was in heaven.  I warned him ahead of time not to cry about her leaving in front of her.  Told him that she wouldn't want to see him morph into blubber boy.  He thought about that for awhile.

Earlier in the day, Santa had sent Hugo a video message to my email, we waited till Thing 3 arrived to watch it.  It was darling.  Hugo couldn't believe his eyes or ears that Santa was speaking to him and had pictures of his past year and even gave him a sneak peak at which Christmas gift he'd be bringing to Hugo!  His little eyeballs were popping out of his head!  The cutest thing about it all was that Thing 3 was excited for Hugo.  At one point she kissed him on the cheek and declared, "Hugo!  You made the good list!"

At bedtime the kids surprised me by not wanting to sleep in the Grandma Kris bed.  Little did I know, but was soon to discover that they had a master plan.  Thing 3 said she wanted to sleep in the Alien.  Hugo has randomly requested a chance at sleeping in the Alien over the years, but I've been mean and always talked him out of it.  Tonight being Thing 3's last with us, I couldn't refuse her and I think on some level, Hugo must have known.  So we folded up his down comforter as a mattress pad, added pillows and blankets, and lastly the kids each chose a stuffed animal to cuddle with.  I read them a story, tucked them in, and turned out the light.  Not two seconds later they were giggling and running from room to room throughout the third floor.  How the babies remained asleep I am not sure, but they did.  It was a magical night of much silliness.

Finally, around 12:30 am, I noticed all was quiet.  Up the stairs I climbed to peep into Hugo's room.  The lights were on, but they were both out cold.

Good night my lovely Hugo!

Good night sweet friend Thing 3!  We will miss you and your family!

Good-Bye Girl

Our time with Miss 3 is so, so quickly drawing to a close.  Her family is moving out West on December 23rd.  Poor Hugo.  If anyone is reading this post out there in blogland, and you are a follower of my Hugo, he might need some cheering up words on December 23rd.

Randomly throughout his day, he'll ask if Miss 3 has moved yet.  And he'll tell me that she is moving "far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far away."  He also has been telling me, "I'm going to marry Miss 3.  She is my best girl.  She is bea-u-ti-ful!  I am going to be part of her family."  He begs to see her.  He wants to go to her house.  He wants her to come to our house.  It doesn't matter where they get together, he simply wants to see her.

It was our Christmas Dinner at Church last night.  I had signed up to make rolls and everyone was asked to bring something sweet.  So I was beginning to make an apple tart for my sweet, when I thought of Hugo and Miss 3.  Quickly I dialed up her Momma and asked if she minded if I took her daughter home from the party for a sleep over.  She said yes!  I decided to tell Hugo only that he had a surprise coming later that night.  He was on pins and needles.  About drove me nuts with all the asking and far off guessing.

We didn't return home until 9pm or so.  The kids giggled in bed till a little before midnight.

If you happen to spy Hugo on the side of the road, with his thumb in the air while holding a sign which reads OUT WEST OR BUST!, please call me.

A Sleepover

This has been the scene here at our house for the past two days.  They are like Mike and Ike.  As our time at the Clermont house came to an end, and while the kids were out of earshot, I suggested a sleep over at our house to Thing Three's Mother.  When we told the kids our plan, they made a bee line for the van!

There has been lots playing, whispering, book reading, game playing, Play-doh forming, craft projects, eating galore, tons of bubble baths, bike riding, sandbox playing, Yo Gabba, Gabba viewing, singing, pajama wearing, and believe it or not, sleeping.  Two nights in a row sleep overs are the best!

Hugo has told me that he is going to marry little Miss Thing #3 and be part of her family.  With his next breath, he also tells me that he'll never leave me.

Playdate

Today we had a Playdate with Things 3 & 4.  Technically, I was babysitting Things 3 & 4... but in Hugo Land, he was having an awesome Playdate!  The temperature was in the high 90's today and yet the kids wanted to wear costumes.  I kept checking little Thing 4 to make sure he wasn't over heating.  I was over heating just looking at him!

Jeez, that last sentence reminds me of my Dad.  My parents don't like the humidity, yet they continue to live in Wisconsin.  Hmmm.  During the summer months at home, my parents have the airconditioners buzzing away on high.  I used to sit huddled beneath an afghan reading or knitting as I froze to death and as Dad would walk by he'd say, "I'm hot just looking at you!"

Happiness

Hugo could not wait to get out of bed today, we had a playdate scheduled with his favorite Miss Thing 3. He was not interested in preschool. Did not want to go. Wanted me to drive him straight to Thing 3's house. Like now. Somehow or other, I convinced him to leave the house with Ms Ruth Ann and go to school. The girls and I tidied up the house, packed lunch items, dressed, nursed, got tucked into car seats and out the door we went to retrieve Master Hugo from school. Have I mentioned that I carry the two girls, in their car seats, up the stairs into the church where preschool is held, and then down the stairs to where the classrooms are, to fetch the dear little one? I was the last mom to pick up today so I took advantage of free time with Mrs Newton to ask how Hugo has been doing. She exhaled a deep sigh, then described him as a little ant. Into everything at all the wrong times. Sounded about right. I thanked her for her time and we headed back up the stairs and down the stairs to our awaiting van and playdate rendezvous.

We need a trampoline. That's all I'm saying.

Thing 3 finally convinced Hugo to come indoors and watch a dinosaur movie with her. Hugo loves all things dinosaur, so not much convincing was needed. He would not look at me while the movie played. Fine, I was busy anyway learning how to make caramels. I was also busy juggling girls who were supposed to be sleeping but were not. Shaka helped by holding and bouncing one wiggly girl or the other. We traded off whoever was the crabbiest. Finally they passed out and we were able to eat our lunch and finish up the caramels.

When it was time to leave, meltdown city occurred. Shaka offered to keep Hugo a few hours more. I was temped, but not sure... Then we spied Thing #4 climbing into Hugo's car seat in the back of our van and realized the situation had been decided for us. We swapped kids for the late afternoon/dinner hour and it was fun! It felt like old times when Hugo was small and wanted to never leave the Thing's van. Good times. When Hugo returned home tonight, I was upstairs preparing the girls for bed. Cheyenne opened the door for him and as Hugo crossed the threshold he hollered, "Hey MoOOOooommm! I'm hoooome!" I loved it.
