Rainy Day

A steady drizzle of rain and fog surrounded our village this morning causing our family to sleep in, or really, to over sleep.  When the girls finally woke me, and I rolled to look at the clock, it was 8:17 am!  Hugo's school starts at 9 am, yikes!  We hustled and hustled and... we made it on time.  Hugo didn't have the best of breakfasts, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich it was, but we made it.   We had a small argument over whether or not his new Ironman mask would be his show and tell item or not.  Hugo said yes, I said no, thinking it was too big for school.  By the time I was stuffing all four of us into rain gear, he had forgotten all about arguing over an item for show and tell.  I'll bet he reminds me in the van on our way home.  He has a memory like an elephant, or should I say, like his Momma.

This N' That

It's a rare morning these days, when I find my way into the bathroom to apply some makeup to my face.  This summer, I am not like my normal self.  I'm chubby so nothing fits, my hair has not been happening, my mascara and lip gloss tubes may as well be baby chew toys, but worst of all, I'm Casper the Friendly Ghost white.  No suntan for this twin momma.

I feel like we've been on the run, full speed ahead, for weeks now.  Summer is half over and I have no idea where it went.  How did this happen?  Normally, Hugo and I have spent long, leisurely days at the kiddie pool with friends and a packed cooler.  Not so far this summer.

I think I've figured out what the great time sucker has been... swim lessons!  We've been driving 30 minutes to a Rec facility for a 25 minute lesson, five days a week for the past four weeks.  Whew!  Once poolside, I park the double stroller under a shade umbrella and nurse one girl and then the other while trying to make conversation with ladies near by, keep myself covered and keep Hugo in the pool.  Our skinny boy freezes while waiting for his swim turn so he'll hop up and hurry over to where we've "parked" and warm up in his towel for a quick minute.  Today was our last swim lesson but, it's raining outside, so we didn't go.  A slow day at home is just the ticket needed by this momma of three.  I do feel bad that Hugo will miss out on his last swim class and his certificate.

The rain thus far has kept the temperature low today, a cool 71 degrees it is outside.  The air is damp and breezy blowing through our windows, I've actually thought about closing them.  Hugo just pulled on some socks to warm up his toes.  Sabine has stretched her morning nap to lunch time.  Marlo is kicking around on the living room floor in long pants.  The weather man said that tomorrow the heat index is supposed to be 101 degrees, I can't hardly believe it.  If the rain continues throughout the afternoon, I'm gonna light a fire in the wood stove.  I'm cold!

It's Dark Outside

This is what is happening outside today.
A slow and steady pitter patter of rain.
Inside, the house is dark, dark, dark.
The fire in the stove is hot, hot, hot.
Hugo and I are yet pajama clad
in our warm house
with the rain falling
from the dark sky
way outside.

Babies

More rain today. Everyone was late arriving at playgroup. We were also few in numbers. Nicole's mother gave birth to a new baby brother yesterday, they plan to stay in the hospital until tomorrow. Mikell and her Mom went to the hospital to meet baby TJ this morning.

Hugo is very interested by all the babies he sees around him. During our playdate on Wednesday he kept trying to pick up nine month old Hannah. Over and over he tried. I'm not sure if he knows that she is real or a mechanical version of the dollies he plays with while hanging out with the big girls. Baby Brady was at our playgroup today. Hugo wanted him to come out of his car seat and play. Finally he got the drift that he wasn't going to get his way with Brady. He crouched down next to the carrier, peered in and patted his little baby head sweetly. It wasn't that long ago that Hugo was the baby of the group, they still call him Baby Hugo. I remember well the mother's telling their one year olds to be soft with him as they came up to his protective car seat to peak at him while he slept.

It is amazing the change that occurs between birth and the first birthday. Especially now that Hugo is two, he surprises me with how much he comprehends and remembers. He really is like a little elephant remembering patterns, places, toy boxes, candy wrappers, books, and trouble.

Playdate Friday

A drizzelly, cool rain fell on us today as we quickly ran outside to the car. Hugo likes to say, "It's cooold" and then will burrow into my arms. A little snuggle where normally there would be none.

We had a playdate at our church building. We saw our friends Parker, Mikelle and Nicole. Hugo ran this way and that. He tossed basketballs around in the gym. He ate his peanut butter and jelly sandwich and drank down his apple flavored juice box. Parker pushed him down, over, out the door and stole his ball. They are very good friends. Nicole and Hugo traded their bags of crackers and were spied holding hands. Hugo also pushed around a toy stroller with a dolly tucked inside. He would lift her out now and then and kiss her face over and over. I was surprised by his gentleness let alone intrest.

UPS made a stop at our house while we were out and left packages for Cesar and myself. Cesar is outfitting his wardrobe in anticipation of the European Soccar Cup this summer with new t-shirts and ball caps with Portugal's colors. Back in January my Grandma Marge briefly hooked me on QVC. Very dangerous television channel. I had been watching one evening waiting for a segment on some dishes to come on when they advertised some beautiful plants coming up at midnight. Midnight!? Sucker that I was stayed up, fell in love with some hydranga trees, and placed an order for two. Well, they arrived today. Can't wait to open them up and plant them tomorrow!
