Huntin' In The Burbs

Cesar bagged a mad hungry, attic wrecker, nest maker of a squirrel today.  This marks his second squirrel shooting since moving into the house.  The furry rodent had been busily shreding and striping the bark off a cedar tree near our kitchen window.  Cesar was lookin' for more pesky squirrels about the yard to aim at, but they had their bulbous eyes on him and all hid in their tree holes.  I had to remind him that only a few short months ago, Ira the Squirrel had melted our hearts.

Toula wanted to eat the squirrel.  I felt bad for the momma squirrel.  Hugo was fascinated with the dead squirrel.  Thank heavens the girls and Evie the Cat were all sleeping in the house and had no idea what was happening outdoors.

Before long, Hugo wanted to shoot the air gun.  Papa let him.  Hugo hit his target and is now gun crazy.  Thankfully, thankfully, Hugo asked his Papa to buy him a cork gun.

Critters in the Yard

Our friend Sheri visited tonight to investigate the pounding sounds she has been hearing above her head. Cesar is working on a pantry space for me and I am very excited! More pantry news to follow soon. As we were saying our good-byes she spotted a creature hanging from a raspberry cane beside the house. At first she thought it was a dead leaf, but as she stepped closer... it was not a leaf! An infant bat was hanging from the cane by one foot. I ran inside for my camera and slipped out again very quietly to have a moment alone in which to snap a few shots before alerting little Hugo.

Cesar thought it was dead, but it wasn't. I must admit that he didn't look so hot. On the other hand, neither of us have inspected many bats up close before. More like, we've swung many a broom in their direction as they've found their way into the house! Our bat was covered in tiny bugs. Hugo wanted to touch him in the worst way, the answer was - a big N-O spells no mister mister.

I brought the bat downstairs to show Jared and he found a nice hidey spot for him. I hope our young bat friend hears his momma's call and finds his way to some yummy skeeters tonight. We've got plenty to share.

Cesar and Hugo returned to their mowing and I returned to the laundry pile. Our cousins Ari and Gina arrive tomorrow so we better hurry off and make things spiffy!

Potty Time - Fo Real!

We drank a whole lot of apple juice and chocolate milk today.

Can anyone guess why???

BECAUSE WE WORE THESE TODAY!!!

All day long. Well, except for nap time.
Momma was a chicken.

We ate snacks like these.

We used this to help remind us all of Potty Time.

I was downstairs this afternoon and I heard the timer buzz upstairs. I left it next to Hugo while he watched a movie. I was a little worried about how engrossed he might be with the movie. Would he hear the timer? Would I hear the timer downstairs? We both heard the timer ding a ling ling! Before I had a chance to say anything, Hugo hopped off his chair and did his Rhino stomp to the stair railing and yelled out, "Momma, potty!"

So why would little Hugo be so interested in being sure that I knew that the timer had buzzed?

Colorful and tasty Jelly Belly beans!

He gets a bean each time he tinkles.
He wanted a bean even when he didn't tinkle. I gave in.
The beans are pretty small and he only gets one - every 20 minutes!

Hugo does like to use the big potty. We just haven't been diligent.

My sister Millie told me this morning, when I phoned her up for moral support, that the Mom has to potty train herself first. Diapers are just too easy.
I have fallen into the trap.
But no more!

These are some of his favorite animals and these are hiding on the top shelf amongst the bath towels. Hugo will get one when he you know whats in the toilet.

Today he "filled" his new Buzz Lightyear undies.
He doesn't know who Buzz Lightyear is yet.
I wonder if it might have been a problem if he had?

Poppa had a little free time and made a pit stop in Toy-R-Us.
He picked up some cars which Hugo l-o-v-e-s!
These are also you know what prizes.

Have I mentioned here before that Hugo asks to watch Cars all the time? I do play it for him but... The problem you see, for me, is that he'll only watch 10-15 minutes of it and then he'll want to watch something else. He doesn't do this with any of his other movies. Just Cars. Movie time is when I can get something done or simply have some free time for myself. Sometimes, I think about hiding his movie Cars away somewhere.

This here truck is for something big. Cesar said I can give it to Hugo anytime.
I think this is a reward for like, a week without poopy undies!
The truck bed opens up to reveal a spa for McQueen.
I think Hugo will flip for it.

Red was in the present pile last night.
This morning, I found Hugo playing with it.
I questioned Cesar.
He simply couldn't resist.

So we have our fingers, toes, knees and ankles all crossed in hopes of a smooth,
and clean!, undies wearin first week!

Wish us all luck please!

Car Happy Boy

Just thought I'd share some pics of Hugo enjoying a few of his many cars. Hugo loves cars and animals. It's a pretty close race between the two of these for his toy affection.

We have been driving Cesar's noisy diesel truck the past week or so. Hugo's engine revving noises have really improved. Another perk about the truck is that he sits higher up in it than he does in my car which allows him to see out and about better. Nearby there is a farm that we drive pass often which has buffalo. He normally hasn't seemed very interested when we see the buffalo. Kinda strange since buffalo are so large and oddly shaped, they have horns and sometimes run around and fight even. How could he not think they were cool?! Now as we drive on by the buffalo he shouts out to them and talks about all the babies that he sees.
