Morning View

Sabine, nor I, slept well last night.  Eventually, I brought her into bed with me in hopes we could then both rest.  It must have worked because I didn't stir again until 7:30am when I woke to Marlo calling for me.  I opened my eyes to this lovely sight and reached for my camera.  I snuck out of bed and into the nursery holding my finger to my lips as I whispered sshhhhh to Miss Marlo.  She sshhhhhed back to me with her own finger in front of her lips as she bounced up in down upon her crib mattress.  Back in my own bed, Marlo was delighted at the sight of her sleeping siblings, trouble was, she wanted to play with them.  It was a struggle to keep her from mauling them both, the quiet, peaceful scene above lasted maybe 10 minutes more.

Morning

Sabine was the first to wake this morning.  I carried her into our room to nurse quietly in the big bed.  Promptly, I fell asleep.  I awoke to the sounds of Hugo's squeaky bedroom door opening and his little feet padding (more like thumping!) down the hall.  He didn't enter our room.

I broke off Sabine to quickly hop out of bed with a feeling that I needed to see what our little boy was up to.  His name was about to roll off my tongue as I rounded the corner of the nursery doorway, when I paused.  What I saw stopped the words in my mouth and my feet upon the floor.  Pure sweetness I witnessed there and then.  Quickly, I did my own padding in retreat to fetch my phone so as to capture the moment for my own remembrance.

People ask often how Hugo is doing with the girls.  Does he like them?  Is he jealous?  I'm here to say that Hugo Augustus love, loves his two sisters.  He may play rough with them at times but he doesn't mean to be rough.  He smooches and hugs them all - the - time.  He'll fetch toys for them.  He wipes spit-up off their chins.  He tries to help them flip onto their backs when they're frustrated and they've gotten themselves stuck on their bellies.  I can't tell you how many times a day this little boy helps me.  If somebody starts squaking, he runs over and makes baby talk for them.  Or he'll sing to them Old Mac Donald, Twinkle Star, Sunbeam or Gray Squirrel or the Marlo Song or the Sabine Song.  He likes to make heart shapes with his hands and church going people with his fingers.  Sometimes, he plays this weird spitting/sputtering (his own version of a raspberry) game right up close in their faces.  I'm not overly fond of the sputtering game, but it does make the girls laugh.  Nobody can make Marlo and Sabine laugh like Hugo can.

These photos were taken later in the morning.  Just after I'd gotten the girls dressed and downstairs but before I managed to coax Hugo out of his pajamas.

I was reminded of these long ago pics of Hugo.

And I've always liked this one!

Hugo's Dream

I woke this morning to the rustle and shake of Hugo climbing into our bed, it was 7:27 am. I was so comfy under my sheets that all I managed to do was roll to face Hugo who was now in the middle of our bed. He was silent, facing me on his side and through the slits of my sleep heavy eyes, I spied his smiley face. I pulled up the covers around him and held my breath for an additional 30 minutes of stillness and silence. "No more eye contact!" I yelled internally to myself. It was working... yes, oh yes dreamland open your gates for me once more, the short one has fallen back to sleep! Then a smooch landed upon my lips. It was really sort of a peck kiss, quick like. I ignored it. Three more smooches hit my mouth before I pried open one eye to look about. There Hugo was on his side. Still silent and smiley. Finally I said good morning to our son. He was so happy!

Cesar decided to jump out of bed first. As he descended the steps to water the dogs and toss out Evie the cat, I overheard a sweet verbal exchange between Hugo and his Poppa.

Hugo: Poppa I dreamed.

Poppa: Oh yeah, what happened?

Hugo: I promised Jesus.

Now what exactly Hugo promised to Jesus I have no idea but his words sure warmed my heart.

Trouble

Early this morning we rose and down the stairs we went. We hurried and opened the door for Rodrigo and Bella, they quickly raced outside. They barked themselves silly at who knows what. Hugo and I ate our Cheerios, fruit and chocolate milk. Normally I would turn on cartoons for him to watch but not today. I don't know why I didn't. I was busy. We had a playdate scheduled and I had volunteered to help with lunch plans. So, I was boiling eggs, for egg salad, and mixing up biscuits for shortcake when I spied Hugo out the corner of my eye. Something blue was smeared from ear to ear. At first I thought he had found some magic markers. I dropped my wooden spoon and took a closer look. He had found his Easter basket, hidden away and forgotten about by me, in a kitchen cabinet. I hadn't worried when he wanted to play with it because I believed it to be empty. It did hold grass and plastic eggs. I think there were even a few glitter insects left inside but no candy. Well, of course,
Hugo discovered a few malted robbin eggs hidden away amongst the grass in the basket. He was quite pleased with himself! His impish grin reminded me of Max from the cartoon Max & Ruby which Hugo loves so much.
