Hugo and I dyed eggs for the Easter Bunny tonight after the girls were down for bedtime.  The house was quiet and Hugo was excited being that this was our very first time dying eggs.  We tried our best to enlist Papa's help, but he wasn't so interested.  Boo hoo for him!  The eggs dyed up quicker than I thought.  Hugo vanished as I cleaned up the kitchen.

I found Hugo and Papa snuggled on the couch with Jurassic Park beginning on the TV.  Really, Papa Cesar?  Hugo was super duper, over the hill excited because he looooves dinosaurs and is our resident dinosaur expert.  He forgot all about the eggs.  All the early talking in the movie bored him to tears.  He asked a million, trillion questions.  I heard a knock at our door... It was Ms Sheri come to drop off Easter treats for the children!  She settled in to chat with us in front of the movie and stuck around for some of the more frightening scenes with the t-rex devouring everything in sight.  If I could only describe the looks of Hugo's face as he sat transfixed by the tv screen.  The movie shed a whole new light upon his beloved t-rex and velociraptors.

Sheri:  Are dinosaurs your favorite animals Hugo?
Hugo:  Not anymore.

It was priceless:)

Egg Hunt #2

Our second Easter Egg hunt, and counting, was awesome!  It was generously held by friends from church who have 12 beautiful acres and hide something like 350 eggs each year.  They are also smart and divide the kids into three separate age groups and the children hunt for eggs in age assigned locations with varying levels of egg collecting difficulty.  The day was breezy outdoors and the rain stayed away, hooray!

The children had all been asked to run and collect 10 eggs and then to pause and wait for the other kids to collect the same amount of eggs and then they would all be released in a giant free for all egg search.  Hugo was not such a good listener.  Hugo was a very, very good egg collector though.  Hugo had collected something like 30 eggs, he is correcting me by saying there were 100 eggs in his bag... anyhoo, Hugo was not a good listener.  Hugo had a wee bit of a problem waiting and sharing his found eggs.

On our drive home we happened upon a mass of cars pulled over on the side of the road watching the trees with cameras in their hands.  I slowed down and peered through the passenger window to see if I could see anything and there was a BEAR!  A BEAR!  A Momma BEAR with three little cubs up a tree.  The girlies were sleeping in their chairs as I pulled over the van.  Hugo and I jumped out as I locked the doors and carried Hugo on my hip passed parked vehicles for a better view of the bear family.  It was amazing.  And beautiful.  I told Hugo that this was a special sight we were witness to, these bears were not in a zoo, but were wild!  I felt energized seeing the bear family up close, I also felt bad for her.  I wondered if anyone had called the police to move them to safety.  Sure enough, as I turned to walk Hugo and myself back to the van, the police arrived and began to clear all of us looky loos out.

Playdate Egg Hunt!

We met at the Weston's for a playdate egg hunt and had a blast!  It was a sunny and windy day.  So why the rain coats on the girls?  Because they served as excellent wind deflectors for their little bodies and ears.  The girls weren't interested in the eggs on the ground one bit.  The big kids were running left and right and my girls weren't sure where to look next.  I barely saw Hugo all afternoon.  At one point I heard him crying from somewhere upstairs, he had fallen off the bunk bed and crashed into an indoor slide.  Poor Tyler was a good sport with Hugo following his every move calling him "Lucas" over and over again.  I guess he is missing his cousin.   In June Hugo, we will see Cousin Lucas in June at Auntie Maggie's wedding!
