Since devouring the Twilight book series I've been longing for something else to capture me. I thought about checking out Stephanie Meyer's new book The Host but ... I don't think so. I did read the book The Other Boleyn Girl. I liked it. I wasn't swept away with it. In a way that was good. I was able to read and enjoy the story while still able to do housework and feed my son while reading it. I liked it. I also liked that fact that it wasn't so racy, especially considering the subject matter. The Twilight books being targeted at a younger reader than myself, have me remembering books from my youth. My sister Maggie and I loved a book and its trilogy called Darkangel by Meredith Ann Pierce. I believe they were the last books I read before I graduated from the young adult section at the library. Every couple of years Maggie and I will remember back and say, "How about those Darkangel books. Read them lately?" Maggie owns them.
I bought this blow up dolphin at the dollar store for Hugo. He loves it. Plays and plays with it. I didn't think much of the blue dolphin while we were at the pool besides the fact that Hugo and every other kid there, wants to ride on it. Tonight as I download these photos into the computer I finally saw the dolphin. A blue dolphin. I can't recall the number of times I read the sweet book Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell. I read it over and over and over. I wanted to be Karana's friend. I wanted to keep her company on her island and play with her wolves. I wanted to learn from her. I don't remember reading the sequel - I might have to check it out soon.

I liked the book Island of the Blue Dolphin too. I love Juvenile literature. I read Stephanie Meyers book The Host, it's a decent read. I enjoyed the concept and how she wrote the story. It did captivate me, but it was VERY predictable. I don't think a sequel is coming either.

When I was in middle school I loved: Island of the Blue Dolphins (sequel don't bother with; the magic is in the first), The Witch of Blackbird Pond, the Alanna series, the Darkangel trilogy, Jacintha, Julie of the Wolves (there is a sequel too, but don't bother), and James and the Giant Peach. Obviously there's a pattern of plot developing here...
And of course the Twilight trilogy is great. I recently read Hatchet for my middle school class and that is excellent, if you're in the mood for some modern day Jack London.
Taylor saw me reading Hatchet and he grinned, I've read that! It's a standing joke between us that he's read so few books that I've read them all too. Funny. He thought he could beat me with The Last of the Breed but I said, forget it! I loved that book!

As always, that Hugo is going to be a ladykiller. Look at those slender hips (not even able to hold up his trunks...those broad shoulders...well, perhaps we'll have to wait a bit on that. But those eyes! Better shorten his leash while you still can! He'll be making eyes at the lifeguards like his uncles did...shades of Lake Mills and a certain Uncle Taylor come to mind!
I want one of those Dolphins! My sister, Kasci, encouraged me to read Tarzan (because she secretly wished there were men like this today). I started to read it, and Ephraim wanted me to read it to him. We both loved it! Weird. Maggie??? Do you have a blog?
Oh I loved that book, The Island of the Blue Dolphin. When I was around 12, I couldn't put down "Are You There God, It's Me Margaret". I think that I read that book 100 times.

Maggie hooked me on the Darkangel series and all the Alanna/Tortal series. I just finished one called "Wildwood Dancing" by Juliette Marillier. It's a retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses and alludes to several other fairy tales... loved it! Hugo is quite his own little man. Love the pictures and the haircut... I've been debating hacking mine off. The long locks take forever now when time is of the essence.
